*Transitions Hair Salon Reduces, Reuses, Recycles, Rethinks, Reclaims, Refills, Composts, and Donates.

*Our paper shopping bags are Canadian made, are made from 50% recycled materials, are 100% biodegradable, can be reused as gift bags, and can also be recycled. They can be found at Mayers Packaging.

*We use Eco-friendly blow dryers in our salon (Low EMF and no ozone emission make this dryer easier on the environment).

*We consider many other methods before disposing of any unwanted items, so that we can guarantee the lowest amount of waste possible.

*We wash our towels in an energy star washing machine, only wash full loads, and hang them to dry.

*Our toilet paper and paper towel is made from 100% post-consumer recycled paper (Recycled tissue products are just as sanitary as those made from virgin pulp and require 40% less energy to be produced). We also have the option of washable hand towels for an alternative to disposable paper towel.

*We use digital notifications when possible, as opposed to paper notifications.

*We utilize every inch of paper, envelopes and posters, for notes, crafting & in-salon signage before placing it in the recycling bin.

*We recycle everything we can, from empty color bottles to paper products and more.

*All of the hair that we cut will be either donated (to create human hair wigs, if the hair is 8" or longer), or it will be composted to help enrich the soil in our home garden (hair is full of protein).

*We are in transition to switching all of our bookkeeping methods, and client file information into electronic versions of the same methods.

*We use natural, biodegradable, non-toxic and safe cleaning products to clean our salon.

*We serve organic, locally purchased fair trade coffee & teas (when available).

*We encourage refilling, as opposed to repurchasing, so if you bring in an empty bottle, we would gladly refill it for you (when bulk sizes of the products are available).

*We stagger our initial energy demand by waiting to 15 to 20 minutes in between turning on electrical devices when we arrive in the morning.

*We unplug unused hot tools when not in use, to save energy.

*We are mindful of water usage at the Hairwashing Lounge, and turn off the water in between tasks.

*Instead of single use coffee creamers and sugar we keep our supplies in bulk containers, and we do NOT promote the consumption of bottled water, or disposable k-cups.

*We use stainless steel cutlery (instead of disposable), in our lunch room.

*We mix only what we need when formulating at our Colour Bar, and record our formulas, to prevent waste during all colour applications.

*We have furnished some of the the salon with re-purposed furniture from Habitat For Humanity's ReStore.

*Walking is our preferred method for transportation to and from the workplace and home.

We are constantly looking for new ways to reduce our impact on the planet, and we encourage you to share your ideas, if you feel that we are missing anything!
